Skins recap Episode 3.06: “Naomi” (aka Lesbian cuteness and sexy times)

Previously on Skins: For weeks Emily and Naomi have been intrigued by one another, meaning that Naomi has been obsessed with getting Emily to admit that she’s gay and assuring her that she herself is not. Two episodes ago they got high on some drugged slumber party cake and made out. A lot. It was very cute, in a teenage drunken/stoned kind of way.

Forget about South of Nowhere or other American teen shows, British teen drama Skins is showing us what lesbian teen romances are really like. Yes, I know I have changed my tune since my last recap, but that’s mainly because this episode was filled with lesbionic scenes. I still don’t really care about all the teenage boy stuff, but when the focus is more on cute girls falling for each other, this show isn’t half bad. As for this particular episode, I would say it’s definitely one of the best portrayals of teenage lesbians I’ve ever seen. Very cute, very realistic and very gay.

The episode starts with Naomi waking up to find a strange man in her bed. No, she hasn’t picked him up or anything; he is just one of her mom’s friends who needed a place to crash. Apparently, her mom is some sort of weird hippy and their house has been turned into a commune. When Naomi walks into the kitchen to complain about the man in her bed, her mother is busy with some friends trying to decide whether or not bananas should be banned, because their shape and texture is offensive. Funny.

At school we find Emily standing in the schoolyard looking around hopeful, waiting to see if she can spot Naomi, but Naomi ignores her and sneaks right past her. What I found totally awesome is that the song that is playing during this scene is the Human League’s Love action. Emily is looking adorable with her little bow in her hair, which only makes her look younger and makes me feel dirty and old. All the kids meet in class where we are confronted once again with their complicated love lives. I will spare you the details and let you focus on Naomi/Emily instead (Don’t they have a Skipper name yet?).

"After
they are done swimming they make a campfire, open a bottle of booze and
light a joint. Ah, life as a British teenager sure is sweet."

i wish....!
I think anyone who tried to jump in lake near bristol at that time of year would die!

I'll remember that for my next recap.

An entire school got trashed by the students without anyone stopping them (I left that part out of the recap) and you girls wonder how realistic the skinny dipping was? ;-)

Le sigh! I watched it on sunday after stumbling across it on After Ellen's BLWE and after two weeks of 24/7 working and feeling like a f*** adult and it vaulted me right back to puberty. Almost as intense as "Fucking Amal"/"Show me love". And apart from the riot a rather realistic portrait of growing-up.

I'm quite curious how they develop the storyline. Do they make Naomily a happy couple? Or is Naomi indeed gay (or bi) but nonetheless not really in love with Emily? That would be a twist I haven't yet seen on TV.

Enjoying making out with someone and not feeling lonely with her/him is not necessarily enough and Naomi seems hesitant at the end  ... I'm really curious how they solve the cat flap scene.

I watched all the Emily/Naomi scenes and found that I liked the feel of the show and so watched everything. Have to say, its a nice show overall, Emily and Noami just make it better then nice.

They are so cute and so appealing. If only they had a show just about them 2, like 'South of Nowhere', that would be a winner.

I just saw all the Emily/Naomi-parts on youtube. I think it's a really, really cute story. A little sad too, though. But eh, that's teenage love for you.

(I thought Naomily istantly too. d: )
