Cute little drugged out lesbians on Skins

As we reported a few weeks ago, it seems like lately lesbian storylines are popping up left and right on television channels all over Europe. Especially the UK has more than their fair share of television lesbians at the moment. Not only can we find “couples” Debbie and Jasmine on Emmerdale and Sarah and Zoe on Hollyoaks, but as of last night, rumours about Naomi’s sexuality on Skins are no longer just that.

Skins is the over the top teenage drama about a group of youth that spend too much time drinking, doing drugs, having sex and getting into fights. It’s like Gossip Girl on crack and not in a metaphorical way (Watch the trailer of Season 3 here, but only if you aren’t faint hearted). I personally am not a big fan of shows that try to shock audiences by showing teenagers engage in meaningless sex and violence (I still haven’t gotten over watching Kids all those years ago), but because of the possible lesbian storyline I thought I would check out the episode entitled Pandora (Episode 3.04) that aired on Channel 4 last night. Besides, the show is up for a GLAAD award, so how bad can it be, right?

I am not sure I can answer that question, because I was too busy trying to figure out what I was watching. There is a lot of confusing straight relationship drama on this show, like one cute girl wants her boyfriend back so badly that she doesn’t have time to focus on her friend who’s having a breakdown. We learn useful information that “putting on pyjama’s and playing twister is more fun than getting F***ed.” Then there’s some guy who finds out that his wife’s been having an affair with his boss when the guy shows up on his doorstep and starts kissing his wife. What follows is a slumber party with a group of teenage girls and a bash of drugged brownies. We all know that that combination can only lead to one thing: girl on girl kissing.

But not so fast. First there is an actual drug free supervised cake making and singing slumber party that is so ridiculous it’s kind of funny. This is followed by a conversation between Naomi and Emily, during which Naomi tells Emily to just admit that she is gay, while she tries to convince her that she’s “into cock”. How charming. Some boys try to crash the slumber party and some girls start to cry. I now feel like I am stuck in high school hell. Luckily, it soon starts to look a little more like heaven when there is a really cute scene with Emily kissing Naomi. Well, as cute as making out gets when you are drugged out of your skull and you are being gawked at by some teenage boy.

I ponder on what it all means while more people crash the slumber party and I watch one of the slumber party girls join a boy in the wardrobe, like you do. Not much later we find the same boy (is it the same boy? They all look alike to me) having sex with the boyfriend missing girl. The next morning wardrobe girl is upset with boyfriend missing girl for having sex with the boy she likes, but for some strange reason they make up, sort of. We end the episode with a truly awkward moment when the lost boyfriend returns. Unfortunately, we don’t see what is going to happen with our cute little drugged out lesbians. Will you start watching this show to find out?

The show was really good the first season then turned into "how far can we push everything" but I did watch this episode on sunday....it was ok....but I'm over the whole "is she isn't she" teen thing

you have tea with a lesbian...a dyke will punch you in the face...and then buy you a beer
