Just like expected, Christmas week was a slow news week regarding European lesbians, but we still managed to come up with a few tidbits for you:

France/Norway/Spain/UK

AfterEllen.com announced the winners of their 2008 Visibility Awards last week, and there are some Europeans among them. Norwegian handball players Gro Hammerseng and Katja Nyberg were voted Lesbian Couple of the Year (International) by AfterEllen.com readers, British writer and director Shamim Sharif (“The World Unseen”) won the award for Lesbian/Bi Woman of the Year (International) while her movie “I Can’t Think Strait” was voted Best Theatrical Release with Lesbian/Bi Characters, French movie “Water Lilies” won the award for Best Festival Release with Lesbian/Bi Characters, and Spanish TV series “Los Hombres de Paco” won Best Scripted TV Series with Lesbian/Bi Characters (International).

Germany

  • In October, our contributing writer Manon introduced French author Françoise Sagan, her work and the women in her life to eurOut readers (“Sagan: An Old Friend”). Now, the French movie about her life, starring Sylvie Testud in the title role, will be released in German movie theatres under the title “Bonjour Sagan” on January 1st, 2009. (Thanks maxime for the tip).

UK

  • According to DIVA magazine, “Affinity”, the adaptation of Sarah Waters’ 1999 novel, will air tomorrow, December 28th, on ITV1, and will be released as a special edition DVD a day later, on December 29th. (Thanks Louisa for the tip.)
  • As AfterEllen reports, the lesbian fling on the soap opera “Hollyoaks” might be over - or maybe not. You can read all about the turn the storyline surrounding Sarah and Zoe, who happens to be Sarah’s father’s girlfriend, took here. So it looks like we just have to wait and see – or maybe not.

This was the last edition of “We Are Everywhere” – in 2008. Of course, we’ll be back next year with more news on European lesbian and/or bisexual women in movies, music, literature, sports, on TV or wherever we can find them.

I'm glad for Anne Will, the media (collegues and enemies) didn't make it easy for her. No matter what she did, her show was always being critized.
At least this means, that she got more press coverage than all the other hosts of political shows.Hopefully next year will concentrate more on the content and the topics, than anything else.
