This week with naked French actresses, happy German lesbians, and the latest from the Australian jungle.

France

If only I lived in France... - The upcoming French movie “Le Bal des actrices” supposedly includes a lesbian love scene between actresses Maïwenn Le Besco, who also directed the movie, and Estelle Lefébure. (Thanks aur for the tip).
In the movie, which opens in France on January 28th, 2009, a young director (Maïwenn) wants to do a documentary about actresses, all kinds of actresses: the popular, the unknown, the intellectual, the funny, the forgotten. Filming everything – with or without prior consent – the director engages in the game played by the actresses and lets herself be devoured by the women who are both fragile and manipulative.

Apart from Maïwenn and Estelle Lefébure, the cast of the movie also includes Charlotte Rampling, Gerard Depardieu’s daughter Julie and lesbian comedian Muriel Robin, to name a few. And even without any lesbian content, a look at the movie poster is probably all it takes to lure hordes of lesbians into the movie theatres:

Germany

  • Still happy – German actress Ulrike Folkerts and her partner, artist Katharina Schnitzler, are still promoting their book “Glück gefunden” (“Found Happiness”). You can read a transcript of their latest radio interview with the SWR and also listen to the interview here.
  • A lot of little (no) angels? – “No Angels” singer Lucy Diakovska just broke up with her girlfriend, a Bulgarian fashion designer, but that doesn’t stop her from planning a family. A German newspaper reports that Lucy is inspired by “No Angels” member Sandy’s pregnancy and would like to adopt a child herself, even if she would have to raise it alone. She also told the newspaper that family is very important to her and that she considers moving back to her homeland Bulgaria to be closer to her family. Maybe she should read Bulgarian adoption laws before moving, though. (Thanks maxime for the links)
  • Happy Birthday – Well-known fashion designer Jil Sander celebrated her 65th birthday on Thursday. Fellow designer Jette Joop acknowledged Jil Sander as a person as well as her accomplishments in this article for German newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt.

So many lesbians on British TV, so little time – Last week, Charly told you about the upcoming/current lesbian storyline on the British soap opera “Hollyoaks”. This week, AfterEllen reports that ITV1 will show the four-part comedy/drama “Boy Meets Girl” in early 2009. The show stars Rachael Stirling, better known by most lesbians as “Nan Astley” from “Tipping the Velvet”, and yes, judging from the trailer there will be some girl-on-girl action (and also a man kissing another man, but who cares about that?). And last but not least there’s still tennis idol Martina Navratilova, who currently resides in the Australian jungle as one of the contestants of the TV show “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here”. As our correspondent Louisa reports, Martina seems to be handling herself pretty well so far and even seems to have found new fans, or at least one. According to British newspaper “The Sun”, one of the female contestants “has been caught ogling the Czech legend, 52, on numerous occasions”.

...the movie poster and The L-Word picture are both inspired by this one famous cover of a magazine. I don't know which one and I can't remember the name of the photographer but it was very popular because he photographed all the top models together, naked and, well....close to each other ;) maybe someone can google the cover I mean?! :)

...they were actresses and she, Annie Leibovitz, .... -- agree with the rest of what you wrote

I'll definitely try to see that movie, thanks for making me aware of it! You made me really curious, cause Charlotte Rampling and Muriel Robin are "playing" themselves.

I love Charlott Rampling... and I want to see that movie now :D

Is Muriel Robin playing her as a gay woman? I mean, she's like a bit "out" isn't she?

...out, at least you'd think so by reading how the press wrote about her break-up and reconciliation.

A long time ago I almost met Charlotte Rampling, well there was only a window between us and she was buying tickets for a movie she wanted to see with her family. Just like everybody else she stood in line, waited patiently and would have payed for her tickets, if the director hadn't taken over. But none of the others realized what had happened, and she even didn't want to have this attention. She scored major points with me for this....cause I've also witnessed the complete opposite.

I truly hope that this movie will be shown in those bourgeois cinemas in my region. There's always hope, that the Swiss will pick it up.
