Poor German men, another attractive woman from TV lost for you.

That's how German newspaper Berliner Kurier comments on the news that German newscaster Dunja Hayali ("heute-journal", "Morgenmagazin") came out this weekend. Hayali told German newspaper „Express“ from Cologne that she fell in love with Mareike, a musician, at a party. They had known each other for 5 years but only started dating about a year ago.

Hayali, whose parents are from the Iraq, told the newspaper that her girlfriend is now planning to move to Berlin, too, so that they are able to see each other more often. Both used to live in Cologne, which is closer to Mainz where the TV studios of the German Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF) are situated.

Less than a year ago, German TV journalist Anne Will came out by telling German newspaper Bild am Sonntag that she and university professor Miriam Meckel are a couple.

Thank you so much for this article. Just today I renewed my bet that I would eat a broom, if she wasn't a lesbian.

Yes! Laughing

I'd seen her on Kölner Treff some months ago and my lesdar went totally nuts ;-)

I liked your choice of header for this article: "Poor German men, another attractive woman from TV lost for you." Funny and true! Keep up the good work.

I flipped through some magazines today, the ones that had stories about Anne Will last year when she came out, but none of them had a story about Dunja Hayali. Interesting, they seem to think that when an attractive newscaster comes out, it's not even noteworthy anymore.

maxime, I'm glad that you don't have to eat that broom. But actually, your story gave me an idea for my next column, thanks for that. :-)

Or could it perhaps simply be that Dunja Haylali isn't as high profile as the others? Last year, when they were looking for a successor to Anne Will's spot on Tagesthemen everybody had to comment on this. Whereas I don't remember anything announcing the fact that Dunja Haylali was starting to work for heute-journal. Well, I don't even know if she replaced someone or if they added her to the team.
