This time the choice for Website of the Week fell on BuskFilms, an on-demand video platform that went live earlier this month.

BuskFilms is run by its Canadian founder Andrea Wing and aims to provide the best of independent movies to lesBians worldwide. Movie that were shown at festivals anywhere on the globe, that received awards and praise by critics but never found a distributor. Sometimes a movie might not be available for a certain region. You’ll receive the license restrictions message for your country as soon as you call up the page for those specific movies.

Movies can be rented for a small fee while you have 48 hours to watch them. You currently need a computer for that, until the site has implemented HTML5 which will allow streaming to iPhone and iPad. All these facts are available in a very comprehensive FAQ.

The inclined viewer is only one group the site wants to connect with, the other group are the filmmakers themselves.

In case you missed it, you can read the press release about the official launch on BuskFilms [PDF] and an interview with Andrea Wing by Time Out Melbourne. You should also make sure to check the site’s blog. As it is almost a must these days, you can also follow BuskFilms on Twitter and Facebook.

Now it’s your turn, what do you think of BuskFilms and what do you think of sites with on-demand content in general? Let us know in the comments.

What a great website, and awesome idea! I hope they can offer more movies as they develop their project, because it's very promising.

If you don't know what to watch first, I would recommend the documentary "She's a Boy I Knew". This movie is hard to find so I was really happy to see they had it. Amazing documentary about transaxuality, very moving and often funny.
