Get ready for another fresh pile of political news with a focus on European LGBT content, and find out what’s going on and what’s stalling.

Europe

On occasion of International Human Rights Day last week, Executive Director of ILGA-Europe Evelyne Paradis sent a video message to LGBTI human rights activists.

Sports

Aus dem Abseits - Ein Film über Homosexualität im Amateurfußball” (from the offside – a movie about homosexuality in non-professional soccer) is a new German documentary by Niko Schleicher and Dino Bernabeo about soccer and homosexuality that will soon be available with english-subtitles thanks to support from the community.

The FIFA Boss (S. Blatter) has a simple solution for gay visitors of the 2022 WorldCup in Qatar, they should refrain from sexual activities. Apparently this was meant as a joke and apparently he added that he believes Qatar to have opened up by the time the WorldCup will be held. John Amaechi wasn’t mollified by Blatter’s further explanations and filed an official complaint with the FIFA.

France

The French Senate adopted a modification of the Code Civile (Civil Code), according to which the surviving partner of a couple pacsé (couple in registered partnership) would be mentioned on the death certificate. Even if this is  topic that most want to push away as far as possible, this is a necessity for all requests following the death of a partner. The amendment still has to be approved by the National Assembly.

Germany

The Department of Defense decided in favor of treating registered partnership equal to marriages. In this specific case a lesbian soldier had requested an advance on salary, a right of straight soldiers when marrying or divorcing to be able to cover upcoming costs.
