Feeling uncomfortable and more than a little jealous, Cat tells Sam she’s going to call Ed and see where Tess is. While on the phone with his sister, Ed sees Tess pass the bar they are meant to meet at, and soon realises why. Tess went for Botox and took a reaction to it, leaving her eye area red and puffy. The fact that Tess is crying doesn’t help her look. Ed says she doesn’t look that bad and it’s just one thing wrong in her life, the rest is fine. Tess admits to him that during their earlier conversation that day, she lied to him. She not only has no auditions lined up, but none of the casting directors in the country think she’s right for a part as she comes across as too negative. She then tells him that she doesn’t want to celebrate her birthday, and her friends don’t either. He tells her it’s not true, knowing they’re all waiting for her back at her apartment. Unfortunately for Tess, the false rejection from her friends was beyond what she could handle while everything around her fell apart. Ed reassures her that she’s incredible, and amazing, and funny, and practically swoons at her feet before doing what we’ve been waiting four previous episodes for him to do: admits to Tess he’s in love with her. Which is all well and good, really it is, but at that moment, Tess runs. As fast as her legs will carry her, back to her apartment.

Oh yes my lovelies, that apartment, where the surprise party is set up. Ed goes into spy mode and calls Frankie to tell her Tess is on her way. Frankie doesn’t hear the rest of Ed’s comments, and tells everyone to hide, when she should have told them to go away. Tess opens the door and everyone jumps out to say surprise to a shocked Tess...

... only to make her run crying to her bedroom. Frankie follows her friend to her room and comforts her.

Ed comes into the apartment as most of the guests are leaving. Cat asks what he did and he tells his sister he told Tess how he felt about her. Cat looks shocked, Sam looks indifferent, Becky looks a little puzzled and Jay, well… Jay laughs. He reminds Ed that Tess is gay, and in a venomous retaliation, Ed says to Jay: “Well it didn’t stop you with Frankie, did it?!” Jay stands frozen not knowing where to look as Ed storms over to Tess’s bedroom.

Tess tells him to get out when he tries to apologise, and she asks Frankie to go too. When she leaves, Frankie’s greeted by Becky. She asks if it’s true, and a saddened Cat looks on in interest. When Frankie doesn’t reply Becky storms out followed by Jay. Sam walks over to Cat and rests her hand on her shoulder, saying that they should go, which they do. Sadie watches on slightly uncomfortably, but doesn’t look away either.

Soon it’s only Frankie and Sadie that are left in the party area of the apartment.

A lonely Tess lies on her bed, tears filling her eyes but not wanting to part with them as it’s too painful to do so.

Cat and Sam get a taxi back to Cat’s apartment. They initially sit far apart but Cat moves over and places her hand in Sam’s, entwining their fingers as Sam raises their hands to her chest. They look at each other intensely, yet uncertainly.
