Get ready for another fresh pile of political news with a focus on European LGBT content, e.g. the very strange humor practiced by Bulgarian politicians.

Around the Corner

Interesting column in The Guardian by Tammy Bruce about being out, proud and conservative and that the right seems to be more tolerant than the left.

Belgium

Muslim LGBT organization Merhaba is nominated for VOEM, a Muslim emancipation award.

Bulgaria

Bulgarian politicians seem to have a very special kind of humor – or how else could you explain the claim of a politician having been raped by a female colleague from another party because he wanted to protect his own party leader from accusations of being gay? He later took back this allegation saying it was all a joke. And it really looks as if the guy with the sick humor was the victim of libel and slander. Very confusing.

Finland

7.800 candidates for the upcoming parish elections replied to a survey intended to help voters find the candidate which suits them best. This survey included questions about homosexuality, gay marriage and same-sex relationship and results show that a majority of these candidates support same-sex relationships.

France

Together with Gareth Thomas (Captain of the Welsh rugby team), Rama Yade presented the new 'Charte contre L'homophobie dans le Sport' (Charter against Homophobia in Sports).

Nessma, a lesbian from Libya (eurOut reported), won the first step on her way to a future safe and sane life. She won’t be sent back to Italy (country through which she got to Europe) but will instead be allowed to stay in France and apply for asylum in France.

When is an aggression where a gay man was attacked a homophobic aggression and when not? In this case a group of 'boys' went to a place known as a gay location, picked out a gay man and attacked him physically. Obvious, don’t you think so? Apparently not, as the juvenile court called it a homophobic attack but not the criminal court that was responsible for the adult boys. The appeals court will hopefully shed some light on this, on November 2nd.
