7. Chutney Popcorn (US, 1999)

As much as I complain about the lesbian pregnancy storylines in movies, there is actually one movie on the subject I really like. Chutney Popcorn tells the story about lesbian Reena, whose sister Rita can't have children and she then offers to have a baby for her. Of course her girlfriend isn't very happy about this, especially when the sister decides she no longer wants a baby.

To make the story a little more interesting, the Indian background of Reena and Rita plays a big part in this film, including specific traditions and lots of yummy food. It nicely shows that no matter what your family is like, we all want the same thing; for us and our loved ones to be happy.

What I like most about this movie is that it's just a really nice movie and even though the subject might seem a little far fetched, the relationships portrayed in the movie seem very realistic.

6. But I'm a Cheerleader (US, 1999)

This movie is a parody on so-called sexual reorientation camps and is probably not everyone's cup of tea. It is at times all a bit much, but I really like the idea behind it and, more importantly, I think the love story between Megan and Graham is very cute.

In But I'm a Cheerleader, Megan gets sent to a sexual reorientation camp by her friends and parents to be made 'normal'. Of course, the sexual reorientation camp is the gayest thing you have ever seen. Even if she wasn't convinced yet she's a lesbian, the cute Graham (played by Clea DuVall) soon makes her realise she's never going to be straight.

This movie was produced by Jamie Babbitt, who also worked on Itty Bitty Titty Committee.

I've seen most movies on the list, and I liked them, they're good choices :).

You made me curious about Heavenly Creatures, so I hope I get the chance to check that one out.

I have seen them all exept for No. 8 and generally agree with the choices. But there is one movie missing that I absolutely adore. In my opinion it´s the best lesbian movie ever made. Not only is the story beautifully written but the actresses are gorgeous too. It´s a movie called The World Unseen by Shamim Sarif and stars the wonderful Lisa Ray and Sheetal Shesh.

There are definitely some movies on this list that I still need to check out, so thanks for putting it together!

Two of my all time favorites are Heavenly Creatures and Fucking Åmål as well :) I agree with DanyWho that The World Unseen is pretty beautiful as well, and much more interesting to me than I Can't Think Straight, that features the same actresses. I think I'd add D.E.B.S. to this list too, just because it's so campy :D

Imagine Me & You and Itty Bitty Titty Committee bored me actually, and I had high hopes for the last one considering its awesome cast (Carly Pope and Melanie Lynskey <3).

I think a world unseen should've been on your list, I think it's one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen, using the same actors as I can't think straight.

It's not just the lesbian storyline that touches you, it tells about how hard women in the Indian group in South-Africa had it, how hard the black people had it, and it doesn't only tell about the forbidden love between two women, but also of the forbidden love between a black man and a white woman. Among other things...

So I thought it should be on your list :-)
