Get ready for another fresh pile of political news with a focus on European LGBT content, and find out in which century the French Constitutional Court seems to be living.

Around the Corner

An alarming number of gay teens committing suicide these past weeks have been reported from the US. While they didn’t know each other during their way too short lives, they all seem to have chosen the same reasons for this ultimate, nonreversible step: being the victim of homophobia, having suffered an extreme breach of trust/privacy. Some groups, organizations and associations published statements, yet it’s an initiative called 'It Gets Better' started by Dan Savage which will probably leave the deepest impact. 'It Gets Better' is a collection of videos of people showing their support for young lesbians and gays. Some stay anonymous, some are supporters like Pauley Perrette, some are famous and some are gay.

Germany

The State of Niedersachsen is one of the last German states to update its legislation for civil unions, but it is the first state to include equality for other branches than the public sector; unless I did get something seriously wrong.

France

Yet another setback for un-'married' couples in the question of adoption as the Constitutional Court decided today that the paragraph 365, stating that only married couples will be considered for adoptions, is not in breach with the French constitution. SOS Homophobie already published their reaction, which is headlined that the Constitutional Court is detached from reality. An interesting figure is the fact that in 2009 53% children were born by un-'married' women.

The French 'non-marié' can be applied to straight and same-sex couples without any difference in its pronunciation.
