This week our Video of the Week is Te Amo by singer Rihanna, who has teamed up with French model Laetitia Casta to bring us a lesbionic music video.
In this video Rihanna is trying to play with lesbianism just as it's been done a thousand times before. Well, actually, she's playing with it, but at the same time making sure we don't get the wrong idea. With that I mean that we might think she actually likes women. Yes, I know, you wouldn't guess it from the video, but the lyrics go something like this:
Then she says Te amo, then she put her hand around me waist
I told her no, She cries Te amo, I told her I'm not gonna run away, but let me go
My soul is awry, without asking why
See, she really doesn't want the woman to want her. Or does she? A more important question is do any of you find this video sexy? I'd love to know because to be honest it really couldn't hold my interest.

You actually pose a few good questions, but I believe the lyrics can be seen in a different way as well. If you take all the lyrics it can be very ambiguous it can be either taken as a girl breaking up with a girl, and it doesn't have to mean she's not interested in girls, just that their relationship is over.
And of course the lyrics can mean she's not into girls, but she doesn't really want to lose the girl either.
It is really all in the way you break down the lyrics.
I actually found the clip to be very good, but that's because I find Laetitia hot!
I'm with you on the ambiguity of the video/song :) However, the video itself bores me and does nothing for me on a lesBian level, even though Ms. Casta is indeed very pretty. The song is whiny but catchy, which is pretty much in line with what I think about most of Rihanna's songs ^^
I think what those two women radiate is 'dishonesty'. Not much of a magnet among human beings…
I am very much on the fence about both the song and the video. I simply don't buy either the sing or the supposed attraction but if I close my eyes and ears a little, I definitely enjoy this song.
It's kind of the 'I kissed a girl' conundrum; I like the song, like the representation but am not entirely sure I should/am allowed to.
I have decided that the song is about a girl who is trying to convince herself that a woman's confession of love is not affecting her; that she is not in love even though she cares deeply for the other woman. That last 'I think it means I love you...' always seems to me that she finally realized that feels the same as the other woman, that she can't fight her feelings anymore.
And yes, I'll admit that I came to this conclusion after having the song on repeat for the better part of an hour.
I'm a big Rihanna fan, have all the Rihanna ringtones and all that. I'm glad to see her branch out a little bit in this video, good to see she has some depth to her.
