Cebit 2010

I have been to the CEBIT 2010 and it was a lot of fun. Just a warning in advance, I’ve been there the first time and I doubt it was my last!

I entered the CEBIT 2010 halls of geekiness and directly landed in China with their MacBook and iPod rip offs. In the next hall I was inside the security hall where G data, Kaspersky, Trend Micro and eset presented their products. All gave out Trial versions, expect for G Data.

One huge thing that you could see at every corner was touch-technology. Touch, touch, touch everywhere. I am not really a fan of it to be honest. Because dirty hands plus touch-screen mean a non working device. It also was interesting to see how huge a touch-screen could be. The biggest I have seen was around 3 m or 120 “. Which is just impossible to use if you are a small person.

Another thing that was around every corner was USB 3.0. ASUS, MSI and GIGABYTE presented new mainboards with the new USB standard. I asked myself who needs a new standard for USB if the USB 2.0 is the technology that is in 99% of all USB devices right now. I think USB 3.0 still needs a few years to be fully accepted.

Netbooks were on every manufactures booth. And guess what they now have too? Touch-screens! There were so many netbooks I hardly saw REAL Laptops. Netbooks are a nice gadget if you don’t need a system that is fast, netbooks are only a better mobile phone, if you ask me.
