Every loyal and not-so-loyal reader of eurOut knows that we like to report about Amélie Mauresmo. A lot.

Seeing as you are still reading this post, I’m taking that you don’t mind. Recently, a lot of things have happed in our tennis playing hottie’s life and that, of course, makes it our duty to write a little bit more about her. Oh, and to post pictures.

Now that we have that out of the way; on to the news facts. With the announcement of her retirement still fresh in our minds, Mauresmo has now officially said goodbye to the tennis world and her fans. On the 10th of February, in the Pierre-de-Coubertin stadium, a ceremony to honor Mauresmo and her career was held. Tennis players, friends and family (including her camera shy mother) were present and most spoke to the emotional ex-professional tennis player who had just seen clips of the highlights of her career on a huge screen at the stadium.

In an interview with TÊTU, Mauresmo talks about the ceremony and how it effected her emotionally:

I had no idea what to expect. It was nice to see all the girls, as most had games the next day. I was very touched by the words of Elena Dementieva and those of Francesca Schiavone, because obviously it's important to play tennis, do the best possible job you can, but for me, it was always more important to share things with each other, with the group. It was good to hear this was the case. And then came Michel Boujenah, family and friends. They were part of the adventure completely and I hope I have given them as much as they have given me.

You can watch a recap of the ceremony here or below. It’s a beautiful piece of film and well worth the watch. Although Amélie Mauresmo has had a relatively short professional career, she was an extraordinary player and she will be greatly missed on the courts.

Now, as we all know, retirement from any type of sports rarely means we’ll never see the player again on our TV screens. Nearly right after her retirement, Mauresmo was offered a co-presenter job at BRL TV’s Live 8, alongside Christophe Pacaud. Reportedly she turned it down, but don’t worry, we have it on good authority that she is looking for other TV opportunities!
