Last night, Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are All Right won a Teddy Award for Best Feature Film.

Actress Julianne Moore and director Lisa Cholodenko at the Berlinale

The Teddy Awards are one of the world’s most important queer film awards, which take place annually at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). More than fifty movies were in the running for an award, and only three of them (including The Kids Are All Right) could be described as lesBian movies.

Other nominees for Best Feature Film were Howl and Mine vaganti (‘Loose Cannons’). The Teddy jury explains why they picked The Kids Are All Right:

The Teddy for the Best Feature Film goes to Lisa Cholodenko's ‘The Kids Are All Right’ for being a well-crafted and humorous take on the issues facing contemporary lesbian parents and the complexity of sexuality, relationships and family bonding.

Nic (Annette Bening) and Jules (Julianne Moore) in ‘The Kids Are All Right’

When you go over to the Teddy website, you can watch two short video clips taken from the movie. To read more about this movie, you can also check out our previous post.

Clips and pictures of the ceremony will be put online soon, the organization promises. The ceremony can also be watched tonight at 23:10 on European cultural television channel ARTE, and tomorrow German channel rbb Fernsehen will be airing the awards at 23:30.

Check back next week for our coverage of the award ceremony.

beyond excited that this one won, after all the trials the film had to master. -  Now, please, a wide distribution and the DVD out soon!

It's great to see Hollywood being more inclusive in its themes. (Thank you Annette Bening and Julianne Moore for your part!) It sounds like this movie bridges the straight and gay worlds, which is what I did in my novel, Seeking Sara Summers. I think there is plenty of evidence that gay and straight audiences can and do enjoy crossover movies and books.

Keep them coming!

It looks neatly, I am looking forward to the release. Though the whole continuous sperm donation thing in movie industry is little tiring after some time, I couldn't help than rolling my eyes at first, lol. But looking after father after the issue seems like it can go different way :). Thanks for letting me know!

Attended the premiere in Berlin, the film is good and funny and intense, all the actors are  great, although I would put first Annette Benning, but Julianne Moore is always gorgeous. Not to be missed.

...for the inside info, Vale!

Benning looked most impressive from the short clips "ARTE" has online in its Berlinale section. Perhaps te meatier part to play, too. Now I only hope that "great!" means "none of the lesbians ends up with the donor".  ;-)
