Here's another dose of your weekly European LesBian Entertainment news. This week was all about TV lesbians leaving our screens, sports women coming out. and lesbians dressing up as men.

Music

Belgium

Our Video of the Week is Follow me by Sarah Bettens, which in my opinion is one of her best songs. You can check it out here.

UK

Skunks Anansie follow in a long line of celebrities who support Stonewall's anti-bullying campaign Some people are gay, get over it.

Singer Sam Fox is starring in the latest cycle of BBC's I'm a celebrity…get me out of here. Find out more about her in our portrait about her.

Sports

the Netherlands

Norway is not the only country full of out and proud sports women. This week the Netherlands gained another "member" when ice skater Ireen Wüst admitted in TVM Helden magazine to having a girlfriend and being very happy. The story was picked up by several newspapers, most of who claimed the lady in question is fellow ice skate Sanne van Kerkhof.

TV land

Current lesbians on television

It's a shame that good lesBian representation on television never seems to last that long. I think it's a real shame to see the Starla relationship end on Verbotene Liebe, although at least the writers let them live on forever and didn't kill them off like a certain Spanish show I won't name. Not ready to let go just yet? You can read our recaps of the show here.

Luckily we still have Esther and Maca on Hospital Central and of course those scary prison ladies from Odsúdené.

Also, Skins will be back with a fourth season in the new year. Last week they released the first real trailer of the show. Looks like a lot of drama, but also a lot of Naomily, which of course is always good.

Finally, Mariette Hansson, the queer contestant on the latest Swedish cycle of Idol, has made it into the top 5.

Movies

Italy

Currently in cinemas across Italy is the movie Viola di mare, set in 19th century Sicily, about a woman who changes her identity in that of a man in order to save herself the disgrace of being found out having a lesbian relationship [Hat tip to Giulia and Trebs].

Germany

This month new on DVD is the collection of international lesbian short movies Küss mich 2 (Kiss me 2).

The Internets

Web series

UK's lesbian web series Far Out now has all 3 parts of their pilot episode online. Watch it here, or read Ley's account of the show.

Is now through to top 4 and had the sweetest performance ever yesterday. She dedicated the song Ängeln i rummet (angel in the room) by Eva Dahlgren to her girlfreind who was in the audience.

I wept a bit there (but I'm a softy)

The clip before the performance was the cutest ever, but I can't find it. It was an interview with Mariette and her grilfriend. Adorable much!

But my favorite performance so far is Someone New:

So Anja Edin is out? Pretty cool. I've only seen her play a few times but I immediately liked her and she somehow reminded me of Katja Nyberg which is never a bad thing :) I hope I'll be able to catch at least some matches of the World Championship but with all the work I guess it'll be difficult. Being a sports fan was so much easier when I was still a student *sigh*.

Also great news about Ireen Wüst. I randomly watch ice skating and the Netherlands have some really cute skaters (especially Marianne Timmer - too bad she ended her career).

In the article I linked to it says under the picture:

Sivilstatus: Samboer med Lise og hunden Esel.  Which means Lebenspartner mit Lise und der Hund Esel. Love the fact that they called their dog Esel (Donkey)

So we'll say that's out :)

LOL, Esel is indeed a funny name for a dog :) Thanks for pointing out the relevant line and the translation. With a little effort (and time) I can understand Scandinavian texts but that was a bit too much for my liking ;)

On the lesbian webseries front, Crystal Chappel and Jessica Leccia from guiding light are due to star in a webseries called Venice starting 4th December

It's an unofficial spin off from their roles in Guiding light

The guiding light summary at http://moviesforlesbians.blogspot.com/2009/09/lesbian-love-talk-on-guiding-light.html

Also thanks for the heads up on Viola di mare

Thanks for all the new lesbians goodies, Natazzz!

I'm with mofole: thanks for the notification on "Viola di mare". Of course, now I'll be able to tear my hair out since it won't be in a cinema near me anytime soon...

As for "Venice" (www.venicetheseries.com, with trailer and many additional pieces of information): since it is an U.S.-based webseries headed by two U.S. actresses, probably eurOut, with its European focus, is leaving that one to afterellen.com (who are reporting copiusly on the show, interviews and previews included), which specializes in US based lesbian/bi news. But perhaps we can discuss European reception once the first episodes are out?

@Bente: thanks for the news from Lesbian Mushball Central (Scandinavia!) - cutehandballplayer, and awww on Swedish Idol. *sigh*

Bente, thanks for the info on Mariette Hansson and the Norwegian handballplayer! (Just how many queer handballplayers are there?)

Mofole, Cath's right, since the focus of eurOut is mainly on what's happening in Europe we can't always cover everything that's going on in the rest of the world. It does look like it's going to be a very interesting show.
