Germany

Thanks to a verdict by the German Federal Constitutional Court at the beginning of this week, the LGBT community celebrated an important success.

In 2005 lesbian and gay couples were given the rights to adopt their partner’s biological child (called stepchild adoption). A county court in Baden-Württemberg (bastion of CDU party) placed a judges draft with the Federal Constitutional Court to declare the stepchild adoption illegitimate. The Constitutional Court not only rejected this draft, it even strengthened current legislation with its arguments in the accompanying press release.

Serbia

Belgrade Pride will take place on September 20th and the organizers have received confirmation from Serbia’s Interior Minister that the Parade will be protected by Police.

Europe / Lithuania

Throughout the last weeks we reported several times that Lithuania was going to and subsequently introduced a new bill which prohibits (among other things) the display of symbols, signs, billboards, events, etc. that promote homosexuality and could be seen by minors.
ILGA Europe and European Parliament’s LGBT Intergroup joint forces to address a letter to the Lithuanian Parliament.
