Lesbian Web Series – Part II: What’s happening in Europe?

In our first segment on lesBian web series last week, I focused on some of my favourite web series. I told you about my love for the American teen series Anyone But Me, and two Canadian shows, one about a clumsy and clueless, yet lovable PI B.J. Fletcher: Private Eye and another about the joys and horrors of online dating Seeking Simone.

A quick search on the internet showed me at least 9 more web series that have lesbian or bisexual characters, including 3Way, Apples, Chica Busca Chica,FEED, GIRLTRASH!, Joni & Susanna, The Lovers and Friends Show, Time Traveling Lesbian, and We Have to Stop Now.

As you might have noticed from that list, most of these shows were created in either the United States or in Canada. The only two exceptions are two Spanish web series Apples and Chica Busca Chica. Apples is a web series that is all about hot women having fun and enjoying life, which comes across in the episodes that are filled with silliness, witty dialogues and the usual over the top events. As you can see from the trailer, this web series has a much more drama and making out content than most web series, which doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

Quite a different kind of web series is Chica Busca Chica, a 16 episodes series about the lives and loves of a group of lesbians that can best be described as a Spanish version of the L word, and I mean that in the best possible way. This web series is really well done and you would not be surprised if it would turn up on your television.

Neither Apples or Chica Busta Chica have had any new content out since 2007. Although we heard that the creators of the latter show are still hoping to make a second season. You can read more about these Spanish web series in an article we wrote back in December.

It makes you ask why aren’t there any more European lesBian web series? I guess we weren’t the only ones who were wondering about this, as there seem to be lots of wonderful, creative people working on changing this situation right at this moment.
