This week’s queer entertainment news
Music
Belgium/Denmark

Sarah Bettens is currently playing in Belgium and on Sunday she will be performing in the Netherlands at the North Sea Jazz Festival. If this is too short notice for you, you also have a chance to watch Bettens do a try out gig before her big K’s Choice performance at Dranouter. The gig will take place in Hamont-Achel on Augusts 6 and tickets are still available.
Danish queer duo Fagget Fairys are coming to Belgium this autumn, with performances in Hasselt and Antwerp in September and in Brussels in November. They can also be seen at several venues in Berlin in Germany this July and August.
UK
Sam Fox is launching her own TV channel called Fox1. Well, more precisely she will be vlogging about her life and adventures on her YouTube channel. You should check it out, I found it rather entertaining. She made me miss having Pim’s and impressed me with her cucumber growing skills.

Skunk Anansie released a new single this week entitled Tear the place up. Watch the video here. It’s the first of three new songs that will be released from their upcoming Greatest Hits album. As we mentioned previously, they are also planning a European tour in October, and you can still get tickets for some of the shows.
Greymatter’s drummer Carey is attempting to break the world record drumming for charity. This Monday (July 13) she will join over 600 drummers at the National indoor arena in Birmingham to form the largest drum assemble ever. This would break the current record of 533 drummers set in 2006. This is not just for fun, but to raise money and awareness or Multiple Sclerosis. You can sponsor Carey here or find out more about the event here.

TV presenter and comedian Else Kåss Furuseth came out as a lesbian on the first show of TV2’s Blymandags sommershow. She made the announcement as she was showing of her childhood pictures, adding jokingly that she was sorry she forgot to inform her family about this.
UK
Hollyoaks actress Loui Batley who’s played Sarah Barnes for the last 4 years is leaving the show at the end of the year. Her character is supposed to exit in a dramatic fashion. No details have been revealed, but it will apparently shock viewers. Does anyone want to place bets on how they are going to kill her off? Perhaps they can get some inspiration from how they do things on Spanish TV.
Not to worry though, we might have already found a nice replacement-lesbian, as actress Jennifer Metcalfe (who plays Mercedes McQueen) admitted she wouldn’t mind playing a lesbian if the script was right.
This week on PA drama Personal Affairs Grace and associate Jane were caught on tape kissing.
Spain

On this week’s episode of Los hombres de Paco it was all about love and happiness as Silvia and Pepa actually got married. Read all about it here. Now let’s hope they won’t kill of Silvia on next week’s season finale.
Meanwhile on Infidels Dani went with Arlet to her school to tell the kids all about her washed up sports career and the kids were rather cruel about it and made her feel even worse about her lie.
The Netherlands
Last Sunday’s episode of BNN’s Spuiten en slikken Zomertour had a feature about lesbians that wasn’t that bad. This is really saying something as this is a show that explores sexuality and drug use in a rather explicit way. But to give them credit, they actually talked about some aspects of lesbianism that went beyond sex. If you really want to, you can watch the episode here.
Germany
I used to watch Verbotene Liebe a few years back and I don’t recall it being as weird and dramatic as it is these days. Charlie realizes she’s not really that into Stella after all – because Stella is a woman – and finally dumps her, breaking Stella’s heart. Luckily there’s Carla to cheer Stella up.

Comedian Hella von Sinnen has been awarded with the “Die KLuST – die Kölner Lesben- und Schwulentrophäe“ for her efforts in promoting women’s rights and improving the acceptance of gays and lesbians. The award was given to her during the CSD in Cologne last weekend.
The Internets
This week in my lists are hot column I talked all about the queer women that I love. Check it out if you haven’t already. I might be a little biased, but I think this list is a lot more exciting that the Ultimate lesbian heroine list that was published by One Poll this week.
Norway
Blikk is doing Svett pa nett (Sweating on the net) features all summer, which means interviews with a number of hot queer Norwegian women. So far these have included Lisa Dillan, Heidi Marie Vestrheim and Monica Wegling.
Books and magazines
The Netherlands
Every lesbian novel has its own book trailer these days. At least they do in the Netherlands. Check out the trailer for the queer crime novel Dubbel Doelwit (Double Target) by Kim Baldwin and Xenia Alexiou and tell me that doesn’t make you want to get that book immediately.
Zijaanzij magazine is looking for lesBian high school students and teachers to share their stories about being out (or not) at school. Go here if you want to share your experiences.
Upcoming events
Belgium
The third edition of L-week will take place in from November 7 until 15 during which several activities will be organised for lesBians and their friends. This year this will include cocktail drinking, lectures, movie screenings, workshops, dancing and sports. This all leads up to L-day on November 21 in Ghent, which will include lots of musical performances.
Spain
The International LGBT Film Festival is taking place in Madrid October 29 until November 9. During the ten days you have the opportunity to watch over 100 queer movies, including a nice selection of films, documentaries and shorts aimed at queer ladies, like I can’t think straight, Dos miradas, Freeheld and Don’t mess with Texas.
France

Another International queer film festival will be held in Paris from October 29 until November 2, but this time only for us. The programme of the lesbian and feminist film festival hasn’t been announced yet, but they are already offering a chance to send in your scenarios for a short movie featuring queer women with the opportunity of winning 1500 Euro [hat tip @ Aur].
Norway
On August 23 amusement park Tusenryd is having a special gay day. Just like many other amusement parks, this is the one day where the park will be open especially for LGBT folks and their friends and it will turn in a mini pride event.
The Netherlands
Singer Peaches will be performing on this summer’s Lowlands music festival that will take place on August 21 until August 23. There’s many other acts attending the festival you might be interested in, including Ella Bandita.
Pride
So far on eurOut we have covered Europride in Zürich, Oslo Pride, and the Dyke March in San Francisco. Would you like to see your pride events featured as well? If so, we would love for you to share your pride photos and/or stories with us by emailing us.
Do you want to know more about which events are taking place around Europe? Check out our event calendar.

Else gay? Didn't see that one coming. Anyway she's a really funny comedian. Loads of self-irony and good humor.
the problem with Dubbel Doelwit (double target) is that they look horrendous, think a harlequin version of lesbian pulp fiction, and sound even worse and not to mention the trailer! Nothing wrong with lesbian pulp but then I might be a bit biased since I used to work and was friends with one of the authors. I have a hard time seeing the person I knew as an author.
But hey you never know it might be readable. :)
What a wonderful Hella-picture :) And she deserves that award, she and her partner are the only famous couple giving their faces for the campaigns.
Trailer for a book? I don't get this.
