The Gunda Werner institute for feminism and gender of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Berlin is organising a huge event revolving around gender next week entitled Love me gender – Gender is happening.
The event takes place in honour of 2009 being the year of significant anniversaries. It’s been 90 years since women got the right to vote in Germany, 60 years since Germany got a proper constitution, 40 years since Stonewall and 20 years since the fall of the Berlin wall. Has the latter really been twenty years? Damn, I’m getting old.

From July 6 until July 11 all kinds of events are taking place in and around the Heinrich Boll Foundation ranging from very academic and political stuff to lots of cultural and entertainment happenings as well. The week will include workshops, lecturers, discussions, dance, theatre, film, exhibitions and literature. In other words, there is something for everyone.
Let me highlight some of the things that you can look forward to:
The gender event kicks off on Monday July 6 under the title 60-40-20 Years: Milestones of Gender emancipation? This day will include lectures and panel discussions on topics like politics, feminism and transgender issues. Especially for this event Berlin is now also offering a new kind of walking tour, namely gender walks. This will be a nice addition to some of the walking tours Joan discussed for us previously.

Now that´s one interesting event! I could see myself attending several of these discussions, lectures, movie screenings......if only I could beam myself from the South of Germany to Berlin.
I too would be interested in the discussion ´Homophob sind nur die "Anderen"´. Maybe, if a eurOut member attends this discussion they´d be so kind to just summarise its content?
("Thursday is entitled Do it yourself – Doing gender, which made me giggle, because sometimes I am 12." My favourite line in your article! Great!
)
if I lived anywhere close to Berlin, I would attend. Many of the events sound interesting, more cities should take up this idea.
I've done some of the themed-walks in several cities, I'd go for the gender walks.

I was trying to be wary, but after reading through the entire program, I have to say that the program is well-rounded, a good mix of arts, queer theory and practical approach, and includes workshop that really cover diverse aspects of gender, en even in junction with other 'defining' categories!
Over all, too cool for words. It looks like every LGBTQ awareness worker's candy store to be locked up in overnight.
If anyone can manage to go, please give us a report!
