Today it was announced that Belgian TV presenter and singer Yasmine has passed away at age 37. She ended her own life.
Yasmine, who was born as Hilde Rens on 3 March 1972, was a well-known figure in Belgium, having hosted many popular TV programs like De Rode Loper (The red carpet) and Zo is er maar één (There’s no one like it). She also had a very successful music career.
She started her career as a singer in 1991 when she released her debut CD Mooi zo. Some of her hit songs include Vraag me niet waarom (Don’t ask me why) and Porcelein (Porceline). In total she released nine studio albums. More recently she went on a theatre tour through Belgium singing translations of Leonard Cohen songs.

2009 wasn’t a very good year for Yasmine. In April we reported that her marriage with Marianne Dupon had come to an end and they were getting a divorce. They were in a relationship for 8 years and had a daughter together Ella-Louise who was born in 2007. The news of their separation caused quite a steer, because in 2003 they had been the first lesbian celebrity couple to get officially married in Belgium.

Just heard the news on TV and radio... I'm still shocked. I hope wherever she is...that she finally found the peace she was looking for.
No words can describe what a loss this is for the music world and the LGTB community here in Belgium.
My condolences to friends and familly.
Today is such a sad, sad day... I'm really sorry to hear of this news. I'm not in touch with much Belgium news but it's been widely covered by Dutch TV as well. I've gotten to know Yasmine through Eurout and it seems to me she had a lot of life left to live. I'm sad to see she was faced with too many obstacles to overcome.
May she rest now and may her family, Marianne and Ella-Louise find the strength to continue their lives now someone so dear to them has been taken out of it.
Truly a black day.
...breaking my heart.
Very sad day for Belgium =(
Hope she's at peace now.
I can only agree with what all of you already said, it's a sad day for Belgium. And leaving at age 37 is way too early.
