Final spurt to the European Elections 2009. Did you notice a change in/from the political landscape? Suddenly the campaigns seem to be all over and everywhere, except for the official campaign, which I’ve only seen on the official website.

Elections online is a collection of links about the European Elections provided by the European Parliament, type your country in the tag field (in English) and you’ll be provided with links specifically for/by your country.

Read these recaps of the French parties, judged by their political programs (via têtu). A summary of UK parties can be found here and the results of a survey conducted by pink news here. There was also a very interesting and thorough interview with UK minister for Europe, Caroline Flint.

Gaylive.be (Belgium) compiled a list of gay and lesbian politicians, incl. to which party they belong.

Judith Sargentini, a candidate for the GroenLinks (the Netherlands), was elected the sexiest MP candidate. “….the sexiest candidate for European Parliament a person who advocated progressive policies and funding around sexuality and childbirth”

sargentini

GroenLinks (Europe) is also very engaged in explaining misconceptions about EU, often expressed by politicians. Follow their tweets and pay attention to submissions including “EU-nonsens” or check this page Trots op Europa.

Lesbian and Gay rights still seem to be one of the most important issues in this European Election, read this article if you’re interested in the dynamics.

In the Netherlands there have been so many debates etc. on television over the last week I am actually sick and tired of it.

I've known who I want to vote for for weeks, so I just want to vote and get it over with.

Is it wrong to hope for a low turnout so my vote will count more?

The EU is kind of late with their campaigns (that said, I'm glad they voted Judith Sargentini and not Koch-Mehrin, who covers her NeoLiberal positions with her looks - there was this one poster that had a mobile code underneath, in case you wanted to to load that poster onto your cell phone... angling for votes because of looks is sooo Carfagna.) - I already DID vote (via letter) and now all the shiny new links and websites are lots on me. Darn!

Thanks for the news on the Spanish Supreme Court decision, I didn't know about that! (less troubles for myself this summer. Neat timing, Spain!)

Now off to check that "Article Three" list...

will you believe me, that I received documentation about the parties only today? And I still haven't seen a single poster in my village.

As for the hottest politician, Koch-Mehrin wouldn't have made the cut, as she stayed pretty much invisible at the parliament. She is even sueing the pages who mentioned her non-performance, whereas those pages simply compiled official information from the European Parliament.

Just recently I saw her on tv and was surprised about her drabness. She's supposed to be FDP's new hotshot politician?

yes, I read up about that only now - ironic, since the issue only got real publicity due to her continued protesting. The SZ has been covering it.

I've seen posters, both of KM and others, but it's much drabness all around. But as they taught us in middle school "every vote is a vote against the far right", and thanks to the Eufinder website you posted a while back I came to a decision on whom to cast my vote for.

I've known pretty much since the beginning which one I'm going to vote for. The same as last year as they see more eye to eye with what I think (and yes I've had to take several online tests to see the trees through the woods)
