Folk songs, funny dresses and lots of gay people on stage in front of their televisions. Europe’s most beloved and hated contest has begun this week. And we will live-blog the upcoming finale on Saturday, as you wished a couple of weeks ago on Twitter.
Not so long ago it was called Le Grand-Prix Eurovision de la Chanson Européenne, how it was named 53 years ago when a bunch of old people decided it would be cool to bring the broadcaster of the European countries together on a stage. A couple of years ago a bunch of slightly younger people decided to call it the Eurovision Song Contest because it sounds more “hip”. Either way, it’s a …let’s put it this way: It’s an interesting event. And this year it takes place in Russia.

All the colors, the cheesy songs and glitter attracted the gay community since it started. It’s also a rumor that each year 50% of the contestants are gay anyway. Which I think is easy to mix up because of the funny clothes, the cheesy songs and all the glitter.

I cannot remember to have ever talked to someone who actually watched Eurovision for the songs. More important for me is that this event offers something for anyone. Natazzz for instance loves the scoreboard at the end, when all points are announced and the digital wall keeps on changing. That’s pretty much everything she loves about this event, by the way. I love that the moderators always get confused when France announces its points, since they are the only ones who actually do it in French.

Perhaps it's not the only night a year to feel more European, but it's definitely the night where it is the most fun.
Also, it bridges the gay-lesbian gap that there is at times since there's always a very gay friend who hosts a party and you all drink cocktails and vote for the most trashtastic performance.
Although, next to Noa and Mira trying to solve the Middle East conflict in song (nice photo up there, too!), there are some other bigger acts participating, too, namely Patricia Kaas (Does that mean Maxime will watch, too?). Also, the Swedish lady would win in a fitness contest against all other participants. Have you seen those shoulders?? And hey, any competition that finds a way to add oriental dancers is a winner in my book!
Would love to live-blog with along, but I'll be at above-mentioned party, sipping Cosmos and crossing my fingers for the Slavic Pride.

I will ;)
and for the first time ever I watched one of the semi-finals, noticed the shoulders of the swedish-singer and had lots of fun when the commentator made exactly the same comments as I did "sounds like Tainted Love" "looks like Bon Jovi"
Hopefully the second semi-final will be as much fun. And one Saturday finally - time for Patricia Kaas.

And my god there's alot of crap!
But the blond bass/guitar player from Ireland was hot?
Any other "babes" I should watch out for?
And crossing fingers for Ireland, I love the song, and the girls!!!
Of course I'll be commenting!!!, Is gonna be a BLAST!!!
Oh, and I think you can watch the show LIVE on eurovision.tv at least I'm watching the semifinals live, and is great!!!
About girls to watch for, don't forget Soraya, the Spanish entry, it would be the last one but definetly worth waiting!!!!
GO EUROPE!!!
Everytime I hear the song from Norway (it seems favourite for lots of people) I think is just LIKE another song I can't remember...
Anyone else with me????
It's ompa-ompa music. It sounds like everything, and nothing.
exactly, it's ompa-ompa music, like everything and nothing. but if my memory is right those kind of songs have a huge potential to win exactly for those reasons :)
We (read as: Clarix) will try to come up with a summary of the contestants tomorrow, so you all can prepare for hot or not ;)
Oh and don't forget to bring your Blackberrys and iPhones to the Eurovision parties you go to, to tweet your thoughts and hashtag it with #eurout. We really want to know what you think!
Just returned from a gay bar where I have watched the Eurovision song contest. Holland did not make it to the final, but that's no biggie. I met a very nice woman from Germay, who spoke a much better Dutch than I could speak Germal. After the contest ended the songs from a lot of previous series were being played and we danced to a lot of them. Afterwards we agreed, the "afterparty" was a lot of fun (much more so than the actual contest. We danced, we drank, we sang along, so it was a good evening.)
Unfortunately we have no reason to watch on Saturday (no Holland, no Ireland), but I understand there is Spain to watch.
